Re: Coronavirus

Doctor Col. There will be a vaccine. There will be several different vaccines. That's what the real doctors are saying. It might not be 100% effective, but it should lead to much milder symptoms and...

Re: Coronavirus

With Bevs and Bo-jangles all the way on this.

Today someone said to me that the people most benefiting from these lockdowns is the Labour Party. I replied, NO, the people most benefiting from...

Re: Coronavirus - how's everyone doing?

The plan is to try and keep it out until a vaccine, which best estimates suggest is 12 months. Stamping it out early means being able to live normally, which we had been doing for more than 3 months...

Re: Coronavirus

Be patient. Vaccine trials are looking promising. There would be no worse scenario than letting the virus in, it leaving a couple of thousand dead, and then having a vaccine appear shortly after....

Re: Coronavirus

But the reason just 21 people died is because we went into lockdown. If there was no lockdown we would be like a lot of other countries. Our deaths would be in the 1000s. The net gain of lockdown is...

Re: 16 year old moving to NZ

Agree. There is so much uncertainty at the moment. What happens if Covid takes off further? She should be with her family in these uncertain times IMO.

Re: Coronavirus

Nup. I say don't take any chances. What would happen if we take our chances and lose. Then a few months down the track a vaccine, or life saving treatments arrive?

Re: Coronavirus

I can't see why we can't be patient and go along as we are until a vaccine. If we open borders more, that will obviously leave NZ more vulnerable. If community spread returns, that will do far more...

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Not into covid 19 being a competition at all, but thought I'd pop this link in for those people here who seem to have a fascination with NZ's performance, and have roundly criticized it.

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Wrong.

I have a compromised immune system. So if I was in a country where Covid 19 was let to run rampant, and those are usually countries that have put economy above people, I may be dead by now....

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Your arguments sound like someone who's just brassed off with the fact a left leaning politician is succeeding and is willing to throw in conspiracy theories in order to prove your point. And she's...

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

New Zealand was even declaring cases in their stats when showing all the symptoms but testing negative. I don't think any other country did that so your argument doesn't hold water. The honesty and...

Do you really think people are that shallow? Humanity goes a long way as far as my voting patterns are concerned.

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

If you were actually living here you'd know it's far from an economic train wreck. We are pretty much back to normal. The resorts are full and retail sales in the past 2 weeks have been great....

Re: Political posts from Coronavirus thread.

Interesting reading some of the earlier posts in this thread. Seems New Zealand's hard approach was right after all. NZ hasn' t had any new cases for 12 days now and life is pretty much back to...

Re: Bricklayer and Counsellor looking to immigrate

I disagree with what Carajou says re NZ wages compared to UK. The average wages are roughly equal according to official OECD data. https://data.oecd.org/earnwage/average-wages.htm
Similar story when...

Re: Job offer in Auckland

Have you given up on Auckland? On $150k I would guess that you'd be in the top 20% of earning families. Even on 100k, you'd be in the top 40% I reckon And there are far more people moving here than...

Re: Extremism , terrism & hate speech discussion - NZ

In the spirit of hardhittingness seen in this thread, here's my take.
There's some pretty interesting hypocrisy in calling NZ racist AF on one hand and, allowing for paraphrasing, labelling kiwis...

Re: Lots of advice please

I read Simonsi that young Maori males account for a lot of the numbers. There are many different opinions as to why. Dont know if theres been any studies regarding immigrants.

Re: Lots of advice please

Yes NZ does have a very high suicide rate among the 15 to 19 age group. But to be absolutely fair its not the highest in the world. Sri Lanka has that distinction. NZs the highest among the 38 of the...
