Your info is very encouraging Notdunroamin. I passed my licence a long time ago and being now over 75, the UK have changed the conditions for seniors which the French have not done so.

I would have thought you'd be better off keeping your money in Euro at least at the start. After filling out your ISA entitlements you can leave your investments in France and pay any capital gains...

There is no problem with the French side in selling without CGT. It is the UK tax that stipulates that any sale in the year of departure from France falls within the UK tax residence if in that year...

the info on the Assurance Vie was very useful and it fits in with what I was told by the Credit Lyonnais. They told me that I can transfer it to Luxemburg which has some advantages...
