UK Inheritance Tax on a US-based life insurance policy

All,

I'm a UKC green-card holder, and resident in the US. I expect to be eligible for naturalisation as a USC in a couple of years. My wife is USC by birth, UKC by naturalisation.

I have a...

Re: Six-month filing extension

Belated thanks for the responses. Making a high estimate of my taxes owed sounds like a good idea. I may end up doing that.

Is there a non-trivial chance that either the IRS or the NC DOR will...

Six-month filing extension

All,

My USC wife and I moved to the US last year -- I'm a GC holder.

I'd like to delay filing for six months, since life is unusually busy at the moment, and we have a part-year residency and...

Re: Working with recruiters

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. It makes sense, though. I was going to contact every recruiter in town, but I'll limit myself to two (plus direct and and speculative applications of course).

Working with recruiters

All,

I'm currently looking for a job in IT in NC. (I wouldn't normally recommend moving here without a job -- my circumstances are unusual.)

A few questions about working with recruiters:

-...

Warning about heating units

All,

I've been meaning to post this some time. We rented a house in October, and switched the heating on in November. Before it starting getting really cold, we had it inspected. I'm glad we did,...

Hardback box folders

Hi all,

Minor irritation here: where can I get hold of hardback 'box' folders here in the US? I'm after something like what you get when you search for 'foolscap box folder' on Amazon UK.

Thank you to the forum

All,

I entered on my IR-1 visa a few days ago. Secondary inspection took five minutes. I didn't ask too many questions on the forum, but found the search function an extremely helpful source of...

ACA subsidies -- income earned while non-resident

All,

I arrived as a new immigrant on an IR-1 with my family (all USCs) a few days ago. I currently have short-term health insurance for all of us, but am looking at buying an ACA plan ASAP, which...

Customs form on IR-1 visa

Hi all,

I will soon be entering on an IR-1, with my wife and three children (who are all USCs, resident in the UK at this moment).

I know we are expected to complete one customs form per...

Re: Interview and travelling on the vwp while visa is being processed.

I will also be visiting on VWP for about a week while my IR-1 is in progress. I have my medical and interview soon after I return.

I will be flying into CLT -- is that significant, Pulaski?

I-864 - liquidity of assets

Hi all,

My wife (dual USC/UKC) is currently filling out the I-864 for me (UKC).

We are not likely to be able to include much income on the form, given what income can be counted and what can't....

Continuing in London after a long delay

Dear all,

My wife, a USC, filed an I-130 for me, a UKC, in London in July 2015. For family reasons (a baby!) we had to delay our application. I submitted my DS-260 about 51 weeks after the I-130...

Employer details - will they contact them?

All,

I'm filling in the DS-260 (for an IR-1 visa).

Employer details: I don't want my current employer to know, at this stage, that I'm applying for a visa. (I don't plan on moving for a while...

Re: One-year limit before closing case

Thanks for the replies, all.

Apologies if I'm being thick, but why is it easier to get the IR-1 endorsed and then return, rather than just delay the entire process?

One-year limit before closing case

All,

I’m going through the IR-1 process. My wife is a dual citizen, I’m a UKC.

I am now trying to delay my application, with the intention of emigrating in March or April 2017.

I...

Roughly whereabouts in the city did you decide to settle? We're looking at...

Re: Slowing the visa process down

Belated thanks for this. Sorry, one further question: the OMB information in the top-right hand of the DS-260 has an expiry date of 31 Jan 2016. Does this deadline apply to my completing the form in...

Re: IT contracting in the US

Ok, didn't know any of that. I had assumed it was 2 weeks until you're senior management, across the board. That sounds much better than I thought.

Re: IT contracting in the US

Right, thanks all, that's very helpful and answers my question fully.

I was hoping to contract so I could have a sensible holiday every year, but doesn't look as though it's feasible. :(
