Re: Price of gas update...

I paid $1.759 /gallon in northern Atlanta today. It cost less than $15 to fill my car up with another 8 gallons (the fuel tank wasn't empty).

Re: A way to permanent residence in USA for people who are told there are no wa

Aside from money (which is perhaps one of the most significant reasons), I'm sure that proximity to good healthcare and family / friend support are two of the next biggest reasons.

Re: Moving 529 account to in-state to get the tax deduction?

I read the Georgia 529 bill and read it to say that the Georgia 529 state tax deduction was only applicable to the in-state 529 plan.

As for using the funds for other uses, I was only planning to...

Hi,

My wife and I recently relocated from California to Georgia. We currently have a two year old and a newborn. Two years ago, we set up a Nevada/Vanguard 529 plan in my son's name, knowing that...

Re: School Matters - Moving Teenager from UK to USA

OP, it's worth asking how you will qualify to move to the USA if you're not married to your French/American partner, who is presumably a US citizen and birth mother to your daughter?

Re: Question on USA/UK tax treaty

Very cool. Did you have to file anything with HMRC or the Roth broker to enable that?

Re: Question on USA/UK tax treaty

I am interested in this topic, despite being far from retirement age, and found this article from 2018 by a tax attorney that suggests that UK 25% pension lump sums can be made exempt from Federal...

Re: Health insurance confusion

I would suggest investigating QHDP (Qualified High Deductible Plan) and PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) style plans versus an HMO (Health Management Organization) plan. See...

Re: EU Travel Ban on "Americans"

The EU hasn't actually implemented the recently announced travel ban; it's only suggested it, and it's up to member states to decide whether to implement it or not.

Re: Report: Immigration Workers to be Furloughed in August

The people in the backlog have already paid their application fees.

I imagine that it's much like unfunded pensions; they need a constant stream of fees coming in (even if it'll take years or even...

Re: Sky Go + VPN

I'm surprised that the AWS external IP blocks aren't banned from accessing Sky. I would have thought that the engineers designing and running Sky would have thought of people and companies doing...

Re: Covid 19 Travel/Immigration to USA - please check here and ask questions

Just to be pedantic, as folks may know, an ESTA acceptance is not a visa. It is merely an acceptance by the Custom and Border Protection's automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors...

Re: How to use a roundabout

There doesn't appear to be many roundabouts in Southern California, but I think that the ones that I have seen have had YIELD painted on the road and/or signs to suggest that much. I think that those...

Re: Covid 19 Travel/Immigration to USA - please check here and ask questions

It's not just a case of being a close relative. Your son would have to be under the age of 21 and unmarried. I assume that that's not the case. See section two of this article/document:...

Re: Travel Suspension: LPR Returning from the U.K. with Grandparent

Re: Travel Suspension: LPR Returning from the U.K. with Grandparent

It will require support and cooperation from state and federal government before life can return to what it was before. Some state governors, like California's, are saying that we'll continue to be...
