Re: Yes or No?

I don't think that travel to Europe as a tourist is going to be badly impacted, although travel is already more expensive than it was, and will probably remain so. The main effect of brexit is more...

Re: Where to ship belongings to?

Have you considered the fact that you will travel faster than your boxes? Your possessions will probably still be in transit when you find yourself a place to live.

Re: Keeping my UK bank account

We didn't do HMRC tax returns. I forget now, but there was a form to fill in and we were counted as overseas and not liable for UK tax. I had no problem for myself, but did have an argument with...

Re: Yes or No?

I think Brexit is a disaster, but whether it affects a decision to move back to the UK rather depends on where you are moving from, what stage of your life you have reached and your other personal...

Re: Keeping my UK bank account

The whole 8 years I was in Canada I kept my FirstDirect account linked to my mother's address. I never had a discussion with FD about whether it was OK, but I didn't lie about it either, and ditto...

Re: Thinking of returning after 50 years.

I suggest the OP uses one of the benefit calculators to work out how much assistance he might receive in the UK. There is one on the Age UK site...

Re: Purchasing a house- tips for a successful completion

In England and Wales the parties are not bound until exchange of contracts, but there are a couple ways of trying to make the process more speedy.

Buy a new property from a developer. A...

Re: Best joint savings account for couples living internationally ?

You specialise in non sequiturs.

Morocco was once a French protectorate, up to around 70 years ago. Why you think this should make a French bank account desirable for a Brit working in Morocco is...

Re: Best joint savings account for couples living internationally ?

I suggest you open up a UK savings account, and your husband transfers money into it from time to time using Currency Direct, Transferwise or similar .

Too frequent transfers of currency rack up...

Re: UPGRADING PENSION

If so, the Daily Telegraph was jumping the gun.

From page 9 of the briefing:

Agreeing that you need an agreement is not the same thing as reaching an agreement.

Re: UPGRADING PENSION

Thanks for that, but the FT article only says Brits in Spain will be able to receive their state pension. It doesn't mention the annual increases, although I guess that is implied.

Re: UPGRADING PENSION

Her dad lives in Caen.

I'm not 100% convinced the pension uplift issue is dealt with. Only the Daily Telegraph and The Express reported that it was, and I don't regard either of them as reliable...

Re: UPGRADING PENSION

While on the topic -- I'm unclear whether it has yet been decided whether the UK state pension increases will continue for pensioners living in the EU. This is of great significance to a French...

Re: Passport Colour

I think it is good that there are 24 families together. Near us we have one family, housed and sponsored by a local charity. There will be another family in six months time. They have no Arabic...

Re: Living in the UK but Dad is considering returning to France with mum

Re: Living in the UK but Dad is considering returning to France with mum

Dad won't get carer's allowance if he is over pension age.

Re: Living in the UK but Dad is considering returning to France with mum

Re: + Hurricane Ophelia +

It was strange. Here in the west country we had a high wind in the afternoon, but it was also extraordinarily warm, and there was that red sun. I ate lunch outside at a cafe before the wind got up....

Re: Care in the UK, Do my parents have to sell house in France?

I've just read this thread for the first time.

I see you've been advised to contact the CAB. I suggest you should also try the Alzheimers Society (http://www.alzheimers.org.uk) and Age UK...
