Re: Purchase process

Agree with Cyrian about renting in France first. It makes things easier because you don't have to try to synchronise your sale/purchase (which would be virtually impossible to do in any case) and...

Re: Looking to Move to Clermont-Ferrand next year! Need some advice

Hi Teddy
Are you British? Do you have any other passport eg Irish?
As dmu has mentioned, Brexit will potentially change the picture for Brits wanting to move to France, in that after Brexit they...

Re: Living and working as contractor in Paris for a UK company

As dmu says.
Without knowing any details, alarm bells always ring when a person works for one "client" but claims to be self employed. The UK isn't too concerned about disguised employment but...

Re: Credit Agricole Carte Bancaire

Is it 44€ per year? I thought the 44€ was a one off charge for issuing the card, which lasts several years. I could be wrong or maybe it depends which package you have.
I am curious how you ever...

Re: Looking for a French language exchange for 2 Australian teenagers

You haven't mentioned how old they are beyond being teenagers - 13 or 18 makes a big difference. If they are 17 / 18 and used to travelling, maybe something like Workaway would be more suitable?...

Re: Looking for a French language exchange for 2 Australian teenagers

You might get some ideas here https://devenirbilingue.com/sejours-linguistiques/echanges-de-sejours/trouver-famille-echange-linguistique/ although on a quick read through I didn't specifically see...

Yes same here. However...
My mum was a French teacher and in fact she was in charge of running the exchange scheme between her school and its partner French school. As I recall there was a vetting...

Re: South West Dordogne

Apples are grown in Dordogneshire although it is principally a wine growing region.

Agree with that.
You may know this already but the use of land that is classed as agricultural, is tightly...

Re: South West Dordogne

Hello Woody, welcome to the forum.

You don't say how well you already know France. If you already know France pretty well, spending 3 weeks in a specific area should certainly give you chance to...

Re: Young Brit wanting to move to Spain before Brexit

All I can say is, if you want to move to Spain while you can still take advantage of freedom of movement, why are you sitting in the UK with two months left to go, asking questions on a forum? Do you...

Re: do you or don't you

Sorry, I must have not explained it clearly.
As an EU citizen the concept of applying for residency is meaningless because you have the automatic right to live in any EU state you choose, provided...

Re: do you or don't you

Hello Bazzer
To quickly explain how FoM works for EU citizens - it's a bit misleading to say that you have to "apply for residency" in eg. Spain. EU citizens have the automatic right to reside in...

Re: UK EU driving license change to French EU driving license

Maybe I'm missing something but surely after you've exchanged your UK licence for a French licence, you won't have a UK licence any more.
At present Brits can potentially wait for their current UK...

Re: Requesting French citizenship

No that's not how PUMA works.
Everyone who lives legally in France is entitled to state subsidised healthcare. The U in PUMA stands for Universelle. Whether those people have French nationality or...

Re: Requesting French citizenship

I wouldn't discourage you from applying for citizenship if you feel that is what's right for you, but I don't see why Brexit would be a reason to do it. From what I hear the average processing time...

Re: Specialist healthcare

I agree with DMU.
You only get 100% refunds if your wife's ALD is recorded by CPAM, and it is only recorded once your MT has diagnosed it and notified it to CPAM. I don't know if a doctor who is...

Re: Carte Sejour - French Tax history required for application?

Inactifs are required to have assurance maladie.
If you're working in France you/your employer must pay full social security cotisations on all your earned income. That includes not only cotisations...

Re: Carte Sejour - French Tax history required for application?

Great clip, Tweedie

This makes no sense to me. There is no special tax calculation for the CdS. The prefecture doesn't calculate tax, the tax office does. Residents must by law declare...

Re: Retiring in france

I think there are 2 separate strands here.
Firstly, one of the of the criteria for legal residence is that you must have medical insurance in place. It doesn't have to be private insurance; if you...

If you check the French govt website you'll see that EU citizens are allowed to spend up to 3 months in France as a visitor. This is in line with the EU FoM...

However, the first thing to clarify is that as an EU citizen, residency rights are acquired in...

Re: buying a car in UK without a CT

You can't sell a car to a private individual for scrap or for parts these days. The only legal way to scrap a car is via a registered vehicle dismantler. So you probably wouldn't want to write that...
