Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Indeed, and it's staring us all in the face. At this, the 11th hour, there is still no 'sketch of a plan' from Brexiteers, or their apologists on here and elsewhere.

"I've been wondering what that...

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

'Boris' is an informal, familiar moniker which could easily be mistaken as a sign of affection.

I call him 'Johnson'; Johnson was born in the USA, and in American slang usage Johnson can mean 'a...

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

You really believe one of the architects of said 'disenfrachisement' policies is actually on their side and fighting for them ? Deary me, Shardy, were you on the pop last night ?

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

I'm not convinced you've read her post properly. She makes some valid observations.

Tick tock.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

The Brexit Broadcasting Corporation are excitedly reporting 'thousands' attending the 'Independence Day' march, Farage's voice filling the airwaves.

Compare and contrast.....

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

An excellent analysis HERE (https://www.politico.eu/article/how-uk-lost-brexit-eu-negotiation/) on how Brexit was fumbled.

Re: Post EU Referendum...Part II

It's a comfort for 'slaves' and those living in a state of 'vassalage' to know things could be a heck of a lot worse, according to Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Ah, OK

The DUP are cut from the same cloth as the dogmatic ERG ultras, totally unyielding to anything and everything beyond the narrow range of their blinkers.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

The same crowd who've hired David Davis in a lucrative part-time 'consultancy' role, three grand an hour, 20 hours a year.

Not unlike his Brexit Sec remuneration expenses/hours worked.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Yes, in the event of 'no deal' the UK can decide not to enforce a hard border, forcing the EU to instead, and which contravenes the GFA.

Not sure of the point you're trying to make ?

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

BS ? Genuinely puzzled by that comment.

'Contravene' = conflict with (a right, principle, etc.), especially to its detriment.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

The UK Government did, the UK Parliament hasn't, as yet. The real issue is that there is no alternative to a backstop, is there ?

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

As a third country with an EU SM/CU border, there is only one option, and that contravenes the GFA.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Backstop means backstop. The UK agreed to it, and had there been alternative insurance available it would have been taken out instead.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Looks to me like yet another distraction technique. Tick tock to no deal as discussed at the Chequers lunch by the headbangers no doubt.

Re: Politics of Chequers, No Deal, etc

Spent a lifetime as lower class, lower order, lower deck, and you're absolutely right.

Problem is, life in the working class has been far too comfortable to get angry, and now the shitstorm cometh.
