Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

It's the Super Bowl today. Or, as I like to call it, the "Superbole". A bit like hyperbole but not as awesome.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I haven't finished. At the moment I believe there are only two franco quebeckers fully versed in the use of the word "bolloc......".

I'll get cracking on him when he starts to speak.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I corrupted my 13-month old grandson yesterday. His parents weren't looking so I gave him Marmite on toast. He loved it.

Re: Coronavirus

My sister in law is, or was, a hospital nurse in Montreal. She was on a Covid ward and naturally got it. Full-on and she still has no sense of taste, two year on.

Recently, she and her bloke went...

Re: Coronavirus

A couple of weeks ago the QC government introduced a requirement for vax passports to be shown at the govt-run booze and pot stores. The number of people booking first appointments shot up instantly.

Re: The Four months of not winter - 2020

Similar situation to us. Where we live is a centre for limestone quarrying (there is one near us). We've been making lots of changes in the back yard. Big rocks come up every time you stick a shovel...

Re: 1 year in Hamilton

Sounds a bit like arriving in Canada in February when you've only ever been before in August, If you've made it through that little lot, I'm guessing you are good to go with the rest. Even Hamilton.

Re: 40 Years

Quite. I'm not building a monument to myself. I didn't see the point in spending maybe 80k on something that will last about 50 years longer than I'm going to. We went for high-end shingles that...

Re: 40 Years

I didn't do the roof. It's about 90 feet long, at a 45 degree pitch and has six dormer windows in it, not to mention several vents and a huge granite chimney stack.

We looked into the cost of a...

Re: 40 Years

We bought this place without visiting it. We were up against a midnight deadline for making an offer. We got my BIL and our son to visit. BIL built his own house and son is an electrician, so we were...

Re: 40 Years

We're in a village, about halfway between Quebec and Trois Rivieres. And the Vette is the gift that keeps taking.

I'd be the most exotic thing in this village if it wasn't for the bloke down the...

Re: 40 Years

I can't match 40 but I'm coming up for 21, unless you subtract the two years I've been AWOL.

Re: Gatineau / Ottawa Tornados

We dodged a bullet. Just. The bit of Gatineau that got trashed is about a five-minute drive.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

Peace at last!

The unruly puppy is at the vet being adjusted and the missus has gone to her first day at school. I can finally hear myself think.

Re: Canadian cities where minorities are the majority

Yup.

I had a conversation with a taxi driver here in Gatineau. He was banging on about immigrants. I pointed out that I am one. He was having none of it.

Nothing, of course, to do with my being...

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

It was my MIL's 80th birthday last weekend. She's a soccer nut. We took her to the Montreal/New York game. The two lagered-up young guys sitting in front of her apologised in advance that they might...

Re: Truck driving courses ?

Perhaps worth bearing in mind that there is a growing shortage of truck drivers and it's going to get worse. The existing drivers are getting older and young people don't seem to want to get into it....
