Australia had border controls on leaving when we were there in 2014, have they changed that? If not then presenting your British Passport to them will raise questions as Australians are supposed to...

HMRC publishes exchange rate conversions that you can use to convert AUD to GBP. Just Google HMRC Exchange rates and you will get a list of sites like this...

There is probably an inter governmental organization (IGO) between Australia and the UK where each country would inform the other of pensions being paid so i certainly would not try and fib to HMRC...

I’ve done this to transfer money from my US bank account to my sister’s bank in England. Once you have made a payment to someone new it saves the details so you don’t have to re-enter their bank info...

FWIW, my mother received hospice care for the last few months of her life and it was covered by the NHS and MacMillan nurses at no cost.

Same here, once HMRC have received notice that you are a US resident tax payer then they set all your present and future income streams to no tax.

That is my experience with XE.com as well. I still have an account with them and will sometimes cue up a transfer at the same time as with Transferwise but Transferwise is always better, and faster....

I live in the UK and receive a US pension plus interest from savings. I pay UK income tax on the interest and pension. My US pension and interest are paid into my US savings accounts....

If you are moving from the USA then the current extremely favorable exchange rates are a big plus. We bought a house in 2017 and the low exchange rate meant that we saved $100k if we had bought in...

I get a refund on my US taxes every year including the first year I moved back in May 2016. Depends on your specifics of course but don’t assume the taxes you have paid to the US are all theirs.
