69k will certainly be managable ... you're not going to be jetting off on luxury holiday , and buying posh cars on it but you can certainly be quite comfortable.

I use one .. Buzz? You can make calls from either a NZ landline, or vodafone mobile. Think mine is about 20c connection charge,...

My colleague commutes from Cass Bay daily, and think he said takes about 30-40 mins. He loves living there. Governors Bay is a little further along though .. so you'll need to add a bit more.

Aha ... we have a dog who scoffs all the dinner leftovers, & veg peelings, egg shells etc go in the worm farm. Even with 2 adults and 2 children we only put out a black rubbish bag once a fortnight!

My little boy (5) goes to Primary School in Kaiapoi. (Kaiapoi Borough School).

Had a few teething problems (but that was mainly with him making new friends, and for us it's quite a culture shock...

Avondale is OK ... reasonably close to New Brighton beach (which is lovely). Also close to Burwood and Parklands which I believe have good schools (not sure about actually in Avondale).

I know, we moved all this way to enjoy the great outdoors ... but even NZ has wet days (and with young kids who get up at the crack of dawn), we have a spare hour or so in the morning which I'm sure...

There are usually 2 choices:
Electric heat pumps (Huge heaters mounted on the wall)
Wood burner

We have both, although it's only a small heat pump so not grunty enough to do anything more than...

House phones will work ... and as Jan and Neil said, your mobile will if they are unlocked.

The only questionable items are TV, DVD player and freeview boxes.

I believe newer TVs 'may' work....
