Rejoice! NZ is on the UK green list!

UK Government has announced a list of all the countries where returning English (other 3 Kingdoms set their own rules) do not have to go through quarantine.
It is being pitched as all the places you...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

My bad.

By "free travel" I was referring to the common travel area which means I wouldn't have to jump through hoops to stay more than 90 days in any 180.
Gives an opportunity to test the waters...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

Portugal and Ireland leading at the moment.

Ireland because of language and free travel.

Portugal because of nice weather and relative affordability.

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

Noting that we are retired.
Also noting that we don'y have £500k tucked down the back of a mattress.
Nor a house with that much equity.

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

If we chose to seek EU residency then we would move to and live in the country, and almost certainly sell up in the UK to fund a purchase in our new home.
Then we would carry on as we did before the...

Re: How long to move

It depends on what the job is.
Some high priority jobs will come with the ability to fly in (such as medical) but there are a load of Kiwis still not able to travel home because of the limited space...

Re: Tourist visa - how long in, how long away.

Thanks for the information.

If we spend 4.5 months each year in NZ (from 9 in 18) this gives us the summer there but doesn't clear the winter in the UK.
November, December, January and February...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

We still hope to move to NZ but in 2016 they cut back on Parental Visas, then stopped them entirely for a while.
They were going to open up again, and with our EOI being in the queue since 2016 we...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

Sound plan.
One minor issue - how do I explain it to my spouse?

Re: Coronavirus

I expect that most people don't feel any sense of urgency because there is no sense of immediate threat.
Shops and bars and restaurants are open.
Pubs, clubs ,theatres, cinemas, party on dude!

Tourist visa - how long in, how long away.

We have been waiting since 2016 to get a Parents immigration visa for NZ, the rules keep changing, the process keeps stopping and starting, and Covid isn't helping.

Up until recently you could do...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

Interesting.
We had Ireland down as an option (like it over there) but were wondering what other options there might be.

Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

It seems a bit quiet on here. ;)

One option to get over the end of free movement now the UK is out of the EU would be to move to an EU (or Schengen?) country and then satisfy residence...

Re: Vaccine - NZ strategy?

Apparently the Eu isn't keen on the Astra Zeneca and they have loads of stock.
They are also massive anti-vaxxers.
However this doesn't mean that they are willing to donate stocks to other...

Re: Coming up to a year

A good few years back we did the costings and a motor home + site fee was almost the same as a hire car and a cabin.

The last time we visited we went with rent-a-dent for the hire car and just did...

Well, we have had our first dose (Pfizer) and hope/expect to have our second dose around end April beginning of May.
Perhaps even earlier as our local GP practice seems to be well ahead of the...

Mind you, I think that was up around Auckland.

We struggle to...

Re: Advice on Auckland areas

Just noting that house prices are still skyrocketing so if you look at what you can afford now it is unlikely to be what you can afford in two years time.

Re: Job offer! Advice re moving please :)

Sorry to carry on the pessimistic tone, but given that everything is upside down in NZ then a possible comparison would be John O'groats as the farthest northern village in GB.
Wick, perhaps, for...

Firstly, congratulations.

Secondly I do hope that you can fly out next summer because that means that we may have a chance to fly out as well.
I think this very much relies on a successful...
