Re: UK family visa application from within UK

Thanks for that. Is it as simple as flying back to the submit theme application, or then having to remain there until it's approved? (can you pay extra for it to be expedited?)
And, not that I'm...

Hi, Apologies for the length of this post, I've tried to include all the relevant information.
I am a British citizen and my husband is Australian. We've been living in England with our two...

Re: Credit Card Debt in Australia

Excellent, glad I didn't miss anything horrendous when skimming the small print. Also just signed up for DJ's AmEx, with $200 of points - you can use $100 for the annual fee, then have $100 of...

Re: Credit Card Debt in Australia

Not stricly on topic I admit, but I discovered this credit card today that I like the look of: http://28degreescard.com.au/
No fees for international use, no fees for overseas ATMS (unless the ATMS...

Can anyone recommend a tax accountant in Newcastle NSW?

I am in the midst of trying to organise my tax paperwork from UK and Aus, and it is a total mess - I need help! Can anyone recommend a good personal accountant, adviser, tax person etc in the...

Re: Defac to wife - urgent help needed!

1. yes I think so - but double check, obv
2. I did the de facto thing a few years ago - you have to show a 'genuine & enduring relationship' for over a year. We submitted joint bank accounts,...

Re: who thinks immigration should let poms in ?

Employers already have to show that they can't find an aussie to do the job, & in some industries the necessary experience & expertise does need to be imported. Where would Australia be without...

Re: Students offered false hope of residency, report warns

Not 'slamming' anyone, only the system which allows so much abuse of people desperate for visas - having to work hundreds of hours of unpaid 'work experience' in sometimes substandard conditions, at...

Re: CCJ when not resident in UK

Patently not!

Perhaps you have to be resident in the UK for them to LEGALLY issue the CCJ, but I am living proof that it's totally possible for the entire thing to get through the system without...

CCJ when not resident in UK

I've just had a look at the leaving debt in the UK thread, haven't read every post but wanted to say that they definitely CAN get a CCJ against you whilst you are resident in Australia, it happened...

Re: Attending Uni with a PR Visa?

Sorry, that wasn't clear! No - just each semester, so payment twice a year.

Re: Are you waiting for the exchange rate to go up?

Make sure you can survive without the bulk of the capital though - I've been here over two years, foolishly hadn't got everything set up for a large scale transfer when the rate briefly topped 2.5,...

Re: Attending Uni with a PR Visa?

I don't know if it makes any difference what age you are, but I completed a uni course last year on a PR visa (I'm in my twenties). You pay domestic fees, NOT international - which makes a huge...

Re: Students offered false hope of residency, report warns

I read an article last week that said it was very easy for foreign 'students' to essentially buy visas, although they are being totally ripped off & abused by the 'colleges' that have sprung up all...

Re: Blood tests will no longer be covered by medicare.

I agree. The NHS is non-viable, and will have to be significantly re-thought in the near future.

Re: Blood tests will no longer be covered by medicare.

Of course it takes time to get used to changes - that doesn't mean that all the changes are good! Think everyone's entitled to their opinion, and not liking something doesn't mean that you just need...

Re: Puppies in Tanks - shocked!

Agree that there's good and bad breeders, but can't see puppy tanks being good at all for anyone - except the people who profit from it. In my mind there is no question that it is absolutely wrong,...

Re: Blood tests will no longer be covered by medicare.

Well it's not really a literal lifesaver, as they will still take me to the hospital, I'll just have a bill afterwards. Which is my choice, as with all insurances.

& ref the Drs being free, does...

Re: Blood tests will no longer be covered by medicare.

I found trying to get a bulk-billing doctor's appointment just like trying to get on the list of an NHS Dentist in the UK, i.e. not easy and no-one really wants to help you. The dentist costs a small...

Re: CHEAP FLIGHTS BUT BE QUICK EXPIRES 24 July

They most likely wouldn't let you do that, I looked into it with the £500 fares earlier in the year. Thought I'd just buy two UK returns (starting from aus) and then use the leftover leg to start...

Re: Rekkie to Australia

I never visited before I came out - talked to people who had, did a heap of online research, came with an open & positive frame of mind - love it, had my citz app approved this year. No regrets!

Re: Blood tests will no longer be covered by medicare.

Quite agree, all insurance schemes are ripoffs (until you need them, anyway) - but the way I see medicare, it's just not trying to be free healthcare, more subsidised for those who have no money. For...
