Re: A new expat moving in.

Lots of investors in UAE who'd love a part of a successful business like yours. These guys for example, education-investors.com (http://yourehavingalaugh.com)

Re: US citizen to work as Structural Engineer in Middle East

The majority of the consultant engineers I knew in the ME, first came across through secondment or transfers from the company that they were working with abroad. That seems like an easier first path...

Re: Breakfast and Lunch during Ramadan for Non Muslims

Wrap in cellophane and ensure it gets slightly crushed on the way to work, eat morosely at a table on your own staring vacantly at a distant wall or ceiling. Cry in your room late at night.

Re: Legal advice - capacity to contract

Yeah true, he's going to have to pay the agent his commission. You are right on the first case, I'd assume no chance - it will have disappeared into the big corporate mechanism.

Re: Legal advice - capacity to contract

Tough situation to be in, I'd echo the advise to contact a solicitor here -especially one from the UK who may be able to empathise with your situation than a local. Escaping from the obligation in...

Re: Trading UK Shares as non UK Resident

Yeah well WSB aside, to own the share you need to actually put up the price of the share. To have the option you only need to pay the premium (maybe a dollar or two)

Re: Riyadh - Compound vs. non-compound

Explains the typical Saudi male mentality very well, which seems to be that all women are uncontrollably wanton if not constrained by moral laws. Don't wear an abbaya hence a slut, do wear an abbaya...

Re: Riyadh - Compound vs. non-compound

You made the same comment to me about women being covered up in Saudi, there's no 'perve' factor in women going around in normal dress for most people. That seems your own perspective.

As the the...

Re: "The Sandpit" ?

Ireland is a knowledge based economy, if your definition of real GDP is restricted to tangible products then you are really going to struggle in the 21st century.

Amazon are based in Luxembourg...

Re: Job offer - Public Investment Fund

I think the issue is that most people consider KSA to be a financial backwater not exactly at the cutting edge of all things financial - full of city boys doing monster deals etc. over lines of coke....

Re: Moving to Dubai to sell overseas company?

I was going to suggest buying a couple of tonnes of cocaine with the proceeds and shipping it home for sale and distribution at your leisure. However MH's suggestion seems less likely to attract...

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

Riyadh is the arse end of nowhere, plus was always the most restrictive place in Saudi to live. A camp isn't the arse end of nowhere, it's another 500km up it :)

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

I fully understand it, the same gun was at my head in 2010 when I first moved there except I never harboured ideas of doing better - I knew the market was f**cked. The rational decision was always...

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

Yeah I can imagine, but thankfully I'm not in that latter scenario. Overall and on a country by county basis we are doing extremely well - to the point that the group has fully pulled out of the ME....

Re: Foreign firms must have HQ in KSA to get KSA gov. contracts

I'm sure it is done on the basis of contact awards within lots of countries - that the contracted entity needs to be based in a meaningful way in the country not just a shelf or satellite company....

Re: Riyadh - Compound vs. non-compound

You must have taken a position as a client representative in KSA, no answers provided without consultation :)

Compounds allow you to freely mingle without the general KSA rules in force in public,...
