Re: Brits in Louisiana (southeast)

Actually the Crown and Anchor is a really nice place just as a bar, even without the draft bitter and (very overpriced) Walker's crisps. I particularly like it because it's dog friendly - sometimes...

Re: Brits in Louisiana (southeast)

I'd like to know where they are too. Here in New Orleans, there's a British pub that never seems to have any British customers apart from me. There's also a grocery store with a huge British food...

Removal of conditions interview - does this mean they suspect me of something?

I'm applying to remove the conditions from my green card. I've provided USCIS with ample evidence that I'm still married and living with my spouse, but now we've been called for interview.

Does...

Removing conditions on green card

I came here on a K1 and have had my green card for nearly two years. Do I have to contact the powers that be to arrange my interview, or will they contact me? And what can I expect from the interview...

Re: Louisiana driver's licences

Yes, until recently you couldn't even phone the courthouse in Algiers - you had to go there in person. It's partly because of Katrina, and partly because this is such a third-world state.

Re: Watch live UK TV - get it while it lasts

As the original poster says, get it while it lasts. The interview with the Filmon CEO back in June (link posted earlier) says that the service is in beta at the moment, and will be GBP 3.95 without...

Louisiana driver's licences

Does anyone know if UK citizens have to take a driving test in Louisiana? I have a green card, and the local DMV website says citizens of some countries with which the state has reciprocity are...

Re: Wanker

My American wife and I made a pilgrimage to Wanker's Corner, outside Portland, OR, just over a week ago. You can read all about it here (http://anenglishmaninneworleans.blogspot.com)

Advance parole - processing time update

I'm here on a K-1 and applied to adjust status in mid-October last year. On Wednesday, I called USCIS and asked if they could give me any idea of when I'd receive my advance parole, as I'm supposed...

Re: Working after K-1 expires

By the way, I meant to say what a fabulous job you and your fellow moderators are doing. It makes you wonder how people got through this whole immigration process before the internet was invented -...

Re: Working after K-1 expires

I completely take your point, Meauxna! I just wondered what other people had done in similar circumstances. Has anyone been asked by USCIS whether they're working?

Working after K-1 expires

My K-1 expired in October and I'm currently waiting for my EAD, which will probably take at least another couple of months. I'm self-employed, so in theory I shouldn't be working till I get it. What...

Re: I-864: US wife has no assets

Thank you very much.

One additional question: I'm self-employed, and all my income comes from clients in the UK. Do I still need an EAD?

I-864: US wife has no assets

I'm in the US on a K-1 and have just got married, so I'm applying to adjust status.

My wife has absolutely no assets, but I have a fairly well paid job, a healthy bank balance and a house in...

Re: Where do you say you are from?

Sometimes I say "Have a guess", and they say "Oh", like Havagess is some country they've never heard of.

Re: Little Britain

We don't have HBO, so our neighbours volunteered to record it for us. They asked if it was as good as Monty Python and I said nearly. They weren't disappointed, and neither were we - we laughed...

Re: Can you get married twice?

Thank you all for your thoughts - except ian-mstm, the self-described "sanctimonious prick". I thought it was a perfectly reasonable question. It was just an idea I had, and I wondered what people...

Can you get married twice?

I've just gained my fiance's visa, and I shall be leaving for the States in a few months.

I just wondered whether there's anything to stop us getting married over here for the benefit of our UK...

A very expensive cup of coffee

I went for my fiance's visa interview today. It was pretty painless, and took about two and a quarter hours from joining the queue to walking out. 99% of the time was spent doing the crossword and...

Re: K-1 and Advance Parole confusion

I'm in exactly the same position as the original poster. I completed my visa interview today, and the woman smiled, wished me well with my marriage, and said 'Now remember, you're not allowed out of...

Re: Bank statements

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough. I wasn't complaining, I was just asking a question.

One of the items you have to take with you to the fiance visa interview is a statement by a senior...

Relatively fast response to fiancé visa petition

For what it's worth, you might be interested to know that I applied for my visa in August last year. It went to the Vermont centre, which according to the website had an average processing time of...

What are medicals for?

I had mine recently, and it seemed a pointless and expensive waste of time. Why does the US government need to know how tall I am, or the fact that I was once hospitalised with an ingrowing toenail?...
