Re: Coronavirus

My boss has the covid. She looks like she's at death's door. She keeps just losing track and is working agonizingly slowly. She had a big presentation today which I was very glad not to watch,...

Re: Coronavirus

The Welsh FM was entertainingly scathing about the reasons for that. He doesn't seem to hold the PM in high regard.

Re: Petition to unfreeze UK pensions for those living abroad

Oh, I meant only that my heirs would have to report how long the deduction was valid because I'll be claiming it until I'm dead.

As far as the death arrangements go, I do have an insurance policy...

Re: Petition to unfreeze UK pensions for those living abroad

Because she's a woman, subject to systemic discrimination, and therefore unable to earn as much as a man. Because the "retirement" is just a means of reducing income in order to evade the support...

Re: Petition to unfreeze UK pensions for those living abroad

One of my daughters bought a house this week. No parental assistance so it took a while to raise the deposit. The sums involved seem frightening but then the same was true when I first bought a house...

Re: Moving out of Surrey,BC (considering Victoria, suburbs of Toronto, Montreal

It has a large tack shop. The apparel tends to the "western tacky" end of the spectrum but the basic supplies, such as fly spray and blankets, are cheap and of good quality.

Re: Conflicted

I think you're rather optimistic in regards to the political climate in Canada (even more so with regard to LA (Jon Voight, Clint Eastwood, Devin Nunes' Cow, the LAPD!) . Immigrants are accepted in...

Re: Conflicted

Holy shit that comes from a strange in-bred view of the world. Hockey vs. Church tweets? Here, at least, neither ice hockey nor Christianity excite widespread interest and I'd guess the devotees of...

Re: interac e transfer?

My limit is ten grand per day (I didn't ask for a specific number so I suppose that's a default). I sent two $9,000 transfers to buy the covid car.

Re: University Fees

A point to consider is that, besides international rates, there are "out of Province" rates. One of my daughters went to university in NS, Qc and BC and was billed at the out-of-Province rate in all...

Re: interac e transfer?

There's a fee for using the service, otherwise that's a good idea.

I've used that mechanism for all sorts of things, I bought a car that way and pay my accountant's fees with the mechanism. The...

Re: Petition to unfreeze UK pensions for those living abroad

That's a good point and not one I had considered despite this theme being discussed perennially. For me the key point is that, if you don't contribute to a country, by living there and paying taxes,...

Re: Petition to unfreeze UK pensions for those living abroad

1. If people abandon their country, the government of that country no longer bears responsibility for them. That the government is willing to give them anything is surprising, they should not look...

Re: Conflicted

My second-hand impression is of Vancouver. I suppose it's possible that small town BC might be more liberal but I have the impression that rural BC, like rural AB, isn't a place you'd want to go in a...

Re: Moving to Toronto this summer

Scarborough is huge and variable, it's not all housing projects where you don't let the kids sleep near the windows. The part at the bottom of Vic Park is similar to the Beach (which is adjacent but...

Re: Moving to Toronto this summer

Address determines school. You'll often see houses advertised as being within the catchment area for specific schools or, in the case of houses on the fringe of being in the Beach, TDSB (as opposed...
