Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

Same for us and 3.5 was the rule in 2012. Wife was still in probation period and didn't qualify for mortgage but luckily there were plenty of fixer-uppers available and just used the money we saved...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

Of course that might be the case with a doctor and other professions but the majority aren't doctors and what is a modest house? It's often luxury properties that lose value quickly. I can buy a so...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

Well as you say maintain. If you borrow 150K over 25 years 2.5%, that's just under 700 monthly. f somebody is earning 5X minimum wage means they can save more and wouldn't need to borrow so much in...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

If you buy a home for personal use then I would assume that you want to be able to afford it. The higher paid job I have today could be gone tomorrow, so worst case I can still afford the mortgage if...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

I suppose what the bank will lend is one thing but you still have to pay it back. I think it always make sense to make sure that your mortgage could be covered through unemployment payments, or at...

Re: "Squatters" in CE

I think one has to look at the type of squatter and If the squatter originally moved in legally (unauthorised occupant), then you can't just turn off all supplies. This can be the case when you have...

Re: "Squatters" in CE

What I meant is that you cut off the electricity at the property. You will still pay the standing charge and without electricity the squatters will hardly last long. There are also many ways you...

Re: "Squatters" in CE

First of all they would have to prove that the owner cut them off and would then have to admit that they aren't the owners with no rental contract;).
Don't forget that these squatters want the...

Re: "Squatters" in CE

Good idea from missile. Just saying that if I was in that situation and didn't want a long process and an alternative to violence, cutting them off seems to be the only way. These squatters still...

Re: "Squatters" in CE

Of course it's an upsetting process and probably not easy. A lot will depend what type of property we are talking about and if there are direct neighbours. One option might be to also destroy the...

Re: UK Residents with property in the EU

Not an unreasonable request but the approach is wrong. These people would have to sue the UK and not ask the UK Gov to start a dialogue with the EU.
If they can prove that they bought these homes...

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

All other options would require a visa, so easiest would depend if you need to work or are retired. Only based on lanage you'd have Malta under KEI scheme if you are a key employee. And for retired...

Re: Buying a Tavira-area property on a joint basis

The obvious would be that you have even less flexibility with a timeshare and the 90 in 180 remains. Surely you'd then be better off buying something for yourself, or maybe just rent.
All that would...

Re: Buying a Tavira-area property on a joint basis

I don't understand and a timeshare wouldn't change the tax/residence regulations?

Re: Easiest (cheap/fastest) way to get an EU passport

Then again most people are born in a place and nobody asked them if they want to spend 18 years of their life there:sarcasm: The thing is that many don't meet the requirements (see Spain), so...

I would have thought that the system in France is similar to Spain and your best contact would be an architect who is specialised in renovations. They usually have the contacts and might even be...

€130K is not bad and at the end of the day the aim should be to borrow as little as possible. The problems in the past all came from banks handing out money to people and the job/salary I have today...
