Re: Climate change.

Always amazes me that the strategy here is to greatly inconvenience people in order to get the message across. Why not have a 'free cookies and lemonade' event at a downtown park, or a 'join us for a...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

Looks like 48% of the entire population; not sure how to get just the 'over 18' number.

Note that this is 'at least once' - some in this count may have been vaccinated twice.

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

In a recent discussion on this (may even have been this thread) it was pointed out that in Germany, fewer than 240 women under the age of 50 have died of Covid, while there had been a non-trivial...

Re: CORONAVIRUS PART II

Well if it helps calm your fears at all, here's a sampling of various other 'mainstream' countries and states, last 8 weeks. As you can see, Australia continues to be at the very bottom, and Papua...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

This is bringing back memories ... you got 'something' done to your arm; a week later they checked, and if there was a reaction on your arm (swelling?) then you got (or didn't get?) the vaccine? I...

Re: CORONAVIRUS PART II

Two good friends in CA (bay area) in their late 50s/early 60s got their first jab already. One volunteered at a vaccine station for a day to get hers, the other just got it as part of the normal...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

This brings to mind some earlier discussions about what types of people are most likely to survive vs die from Covid. I can imagine a Marine would tick quite a few of the boxes for being 'likely to...

Re: WTF in America

You know, we are just going to have to wait for Leslie to come back because she really knows her 'US' stuff (and actually worked in one :) ). To me, exposed to mainly West Coast US life for almost...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

How very 'Star Trek' sounding! On Star Trek, they cure every ailment known to man with a 'schwissssh' injection to the neck! So whenever I hear about this being done in real life, I always think...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

Hopefully, they DO ask for your name and address, at least!? There's no way they can implement any sort of vaccine passport if they don't keep track of who's had it.

Re: WTF in America

You call it 'the cafe', but wouldn't you also call it the 'coffee shop' back then? Today, 'coffee shop' could be misconstrued as a Starbucks, but back then, 'coffee shop' was a full-blown breakfast...

Re: WTF in America

Which means, the mystery of 'why' remains totally unsolved! If they research everything (which I'm sure do), and knew people would prefer to drink the beverage right away, then what possessed them to...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

This reminds me of the rather excellent documentary about Bill Gates from a few years ago (Inside Bills Brain ... Netflix), where they focused on three of the major initiatives of his foundation; two...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccination -- Have You Gotten It?

But presumably, these cases of fainting are more directly related to the actual injection event - the thought of the needle, etc? In my case, I'm totally OK with jabs, and the injection event passed...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

Wow - that '2%' figure didn't sound right, based on the fact that Canada is figuring quite well in the 'people vaccinated' charts. But sure enough, according to this chart -
An interactive...

Interesting. Did they ever explain why they maintained the coffee at such a high temperature? I personally really appreciated it because I liked to dump in a bunch of milk/cream, and the combination...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

This makes perfect sense to me.

Obviously, nothing you or I think or want is going to have any effect right now, so this is purely speculative and intellectual. So with that caveat, would you...

Re: WTF in America

OK, I'll consider myself better educated now, and I respect your input, but still - isn't there some level of expectation that a cup of hot coffee will be ... 'hot'? Back in the 80s I was a daily...

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

Your explanations as to 'why' are probably spot-on; but that's not my question. I'm trying to get to the bottom of the 'moral dilemma' some seem to feel about equity of vaccine access as it relates...

This was first posted by LizzyQ over in the 'food' thread, but since it's way off-topic for that thread, I'm posting it here because I think it's an hilarious story!

Re: Off topic Political Posts moved from Coronavirus thread

While perusing the numbers of 'cases' and 'deaths' over at the 'worldometers' site (a site I generally don't pay much attention to these days, since what happened a year ago is largely irrelevant...

Re: A Food thread

I sometimes think you can get a pretty interesting insight into the nature of a country by the warning labels they put on things! I've always imagined the US was the supreme ruler of nonsense when...
