Re: Parent Category opening again Feb 2020

Even higher for two parents.
I'm not sure if this is intentional to favour a lone parent (who may be in more need of support from a child) or just a reflection of the higher costs.

As I read it...

Re: The way forward for grandparent?

I thought Tier 2 had been abolished.
Although, last time I looked, the old rules were still there there was a route to the new rules with only one tier.

Everything is now based on the income of...

Re: The way forward for grandparent?

Just popped by to see if anything has changed for Parent Category.
Looks like nothing happening.
Just a crimp in the 6 in 6 out which was the alternative.

Re: question for those looking to emigrate to NZ from the UK - re. Brexit

There are some of us who put in an EOI significantly before the Brexit vote and are still waiting for Parent Category to open up again.

One reason we applied was because we thought the UK was...

Re: Ikea

I remember being told all sorts of stuff in the mid-late 1980s when we first looked at emigrating, including that you shouldn't bring your white goods with you because they "wouldn't work" and TVs...

Re: Net migration hits new record

Agree.

At first glance somebody has identified that having to fill in, check, and then scan in paper forms is a waste of time, money and effort if there is already a computer record of entry tied...

Re: Parent Category......What Happens Next ?

When I said "poll" I was meaning INZ - checking that the EOI are still in play, and possibly cutting out a lot of draws and then withdrawals. This would give a much more realistic figure.

Re: Parent Category......What Happens Next ?

It might be sensible to poll those who have put in an EOI to see if they are still interested 2 years down the line.

Re: Visa, Jobs , Immigration for an older couple.

Back in the day people used to fly to NZ on a tourist visa and interview for jobs during their holidays.
I don't know if this contravenes the current visa restrictions (if they find out) but flying...

Re: Did not believe this so went and checked

On a slightly more serious note, I assume that this will only be open to applicants where sex work is legal in their home country, otherwise they would be condoning law breaking.
How long have you...

Re: Parent Category......What Happens Next ?

The main question will be the "run rate". 300 a year may take a very long time to clear the outstanding EOIs.

Re: Parent Category......What Happens Next ?

We have more or less given up on waiting to be asked to apply. Something akin to winning a lottery, pools etc. which would be nice but very unlikely.
Of the points that you list, I think having...

Re: Net migration hits new record

Just looked again at the categories.
Not going to have our EOI looked at for at least the next 2 years.
We need £500,000 + £250,000 + £30,000 a year income to come as an "investor".

Not living...

Re: Net migration hits new record

Grumping from the corner.
We would be quite happy to come over and build a house somewhere "not Auckland".

Must be coming around to the time when they review the Parents immigration queue, soon.

Re: Net migration hits new record

The issue isn't that the immigrants don't have "means". Quite the opposite. The immigrants have enough money to buy a house which denies that house to existing residents and creates scarcity of...

Re: Net migration hits new record

So it looks as though the one/main issue highlighted is that houses are not being built to provide homes for new immigrants. No mention of drain on resources. A mention of extra cars on the road.

As an island nation in the middle of the Pacific I...

Re: our Citizenship update

In the future there may be places which will welcome NZ citizens but be less keen on UK (or whatever it morphs into) citizens.

Or perhaps vice versa.

If you can afford it a second passport can...

re: NZ is as racist as --

It seems a tale that is common throughout the world....
