Re: Age limits - any exceptions

Sixty was the cut off date at the government authority I worked at in Dubai (public transport) and a special dispensation was needed beyond that. I recall only two cases of blokes being retained...

Re: Royal Split

Grown men tittle-tattling like schoolgirls.

If it’s good for Britain, keep em in the loop, otherwise bin em.

Re: Labour Leadership

I can see them splitting apart: Lansman to take the hard core further left into perpetual opposition, and moderates struggling to stay more relevant than Change UK did. Cue 20 years-plus of...

Re: Labour Leadership

Long-Bailey should walk it, so tight is Momentum's grip on the party.

Re: Flying in/out of Doha

I wouldn't worry. I fly between the UK and Doha fairly regularly, the last time being on QR last Saturday, the day after the Soleimani strike. It's not correct that QR has no choice but to fly over...

Re: Secondment to the UAE/Ruwais

As above, that's a poor offer given your skill set and experience, IMO. You won't starve but with your background you can and should be looking for more. It's not like you're coming out here with...

Re: Negotiating a package

Just a bit of background info on money. This is contract money rather than permanent, but, as a pointer, a mate of mine here in Qatar - British, 50s, supervisory role and a mix of on- and offshore -...

Re: QATAR- what to bring

Good call on Oxo cubes/beef stock. As above though, you can get most stuff in Doha.

Re: Qatar Blockade softening?

Fingers crossed. It's positive that Saudi/UAE/Bahrain sent teams to the Gulf Cup.

Re: Need some advice please - 17 year old getting work in Qatar?

A bloke at our place has had his son over on a sabbatical in similar circumstances, doing a one-off project for the experience. He was paid out of his dad's own pocket, which I suspect is the best...

Re: Qatar salary

If your accommodation and transport are paid you can live here for very little. Vegetables and other staples in places like Carrefour and bottom-end supermarkets are not much different to back-home...

Re: Paying for visas

I hope it works out for you but it sounds like a scam. For the two jobs I've had in this neck of the woods, the employer has picked up all these types of costs.

A mate of mine was keen to come out...

Re: Job Offer in Principle

Package 2 over Package 1 every time.

I work in a different industry but 2 doesn't seem too far off the mark. Would be a bit on the light side on daily rate for rail with your length of experience...

Re: Doha - Reputable real estate agents (rentals)

PS For a bit less but still good quality, check out The Curve opposite the Hilton. Avoid the Mathema (ex Adagio), which has gone downhill since a change of management.

Re: Doha - Reputable real estate agents (rentals)

The 5* serviced apartment options in West Bay take some beating for ease, flexibility and quality, including for longer term. I do the same as Martin above - 5* serviced place, full amenities, food &...

Re: 31 October 2019

No Deal, WTO Brexit, plenty of side deals to cover stuff like aviation. No more payments to the EU, no more shared fisheries, Irish border managed with technology and a nod and a wink, tariffs on...

If you're looking for a good quality, shorter-term serviced apartment, check out the deals at the W Hotel, InterContinental Residences (Doha The City) and the Fraser Suites (the West Bay one).

Re: Best Brunch and Bars in Doha?

On brunches, it's indoor season at the minute. They're better when they go outdoors, once the weather cools off. There are plenty around. Two that stand out off the top of my head are the Kempinsky...
