Re: Homesick in Wisconsin

The British, in very broad terms, have a bit of a problem with people speaking a different language (I know it is not all). It doesn't surprise me that we migrate to English speaking countries as a...

Re: Homesick in Wisconsin

To the OP, it certainly seems like you've compounded the culture shock - not just switching countries, but also an entire way of life.

On a personal level, I could not cope living in very small...

Re: Moving without expat package?

I received $10k upfront and a couple of weeks to settle in, other than that we were on our own (L1A). I instigated the move, so wasn't expecting much, it was the opportunity I was after, and have...

Re: Florida vacation with 5 year-old

Another vote for the Clearwater/St Pete's Beach area, never been disappointed on visits there and great for little ones with lovely safe beaches and one of them, maybe both, has a Pirate Ship that...

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

I think there are three triggers for an exit tax and I am unlikely to hit any of them. If I do, I'd be happy to pay as I doubt money will be a worry :-)

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

Yes, but any plans to leave the USA would probably be forever, so I'd give that up should that day come around. Given where I live, maybe I can sign-up to the Confederacy and avoid it that way? No?...

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

I knew it existed, by where did the law on Global income come from? Seems almost the antithesis of the founding of the Country to me. I have no plans to Naturalise, and neither do my family, so it...

Re: What to do whilst on spousal non-work visa?

You need to do something that is purely volunteer work, something nobody would ever be paid to do in lieu of you doing it. So, even looking after someone elses child would create a problem. Usually...

Re: Will my child need to file taxes in US when old enough

For a Country founded the way it was, the taxation situation described above does seem a little odd to me. I can well imagine people who hit the requisite age and have never lived a day in another...

Re: UK to Australia and now US?

I know I'm not in NC, but Georgia seems similar in many ways. I'm trying not to offend - it is my choice to live in someone elses back yard after all, but for me there are at least two very distinct...

Re: Moving from Glasgow, Scotland to Charleston SC

My Health Insurance comes out around $600 a month for a family of four including dental and eye care. That's with a $1.5k deductible and $3.5k max out of pocket. We had a lower plan the first year...

Virgin were excellent for our cat to Atlanta as well, and they fly Chicago direct.

Re: 2019 England to Texas driving license

I love the fact that the admin burden is significantly more cumbersome than passing the tests over here. Sarcasm filter fully applied.

Re: US salary

A quick google and on the NH DOJ website there is this line:

"A landlord can also include a clause to force a mid-lease rent increase if property taxes are increased."

That would suggest the...

Re: US salary

When we rented, the owner paid the Property Tax.

Rule of thumb - multiply the GBP salary you both earn today by two and that should be enough in most locations to retain your standard of living,...

Re: L-1A to green card

I started the L1A to EB1C process in September 2018, just awaiting the confirmation of receipt as we filed the I485 last month (the EB1C category was backlogged, and remains so). Been advised it...

Re: 2020 Election

Who'd have thought the Four Yorkshiremen sketch would be getting a run out in a thread about the USA 2020 Election.

Re: Would appreciate some advice on the viability of attaining residency

I got my opportunity to move by walking in and letting the VP know I was leaving the business (not right then, but had started the process of looking) which ended in a conversation about what options...

Re: 2020 Election

I've enjoyed many $100+ days in Disney and given money to Homeless people I walk past in the street. Granted, there was a time last year when it turned out it was just a worker from the restaurant...

Re: Form I-693

Yep, just had ours two months ago. Needed to find an approved Doctor (use the USCIS website) and then they took the medical records plus had to do a couple of blood tests. Cost us $300 each for...

Re: Moving from UK to USA (Around Kissimmee area)

In the event that your husband has a way of getting a Visa, based purely on several drives around Kissimmee and then checking my assumptions with a quick google about the City , I'd probably look at...

Re: Visa help and recommendations for an Immigration Lawyer

Re: We want to move to Sarasota

If your business needs good connections, Atlanta would be a good choice and South of the Metro area you start to get some low relative wages which would probably help the business side. As an...

Re: If you could vote for brexit again, would you?

I did not vote and fully believe we are financially worse off by leaving. I would prefer us to remain, clearly, but feel it would have continued to be a painful existence, politically speaking. ...

Re: Moving to USA

The L Visa is certainly the quickest route to realise a part of your dream. It opens doors to the next stages, but they will take a few years - still far quicker and more secure than other options...
