My younger son has also made several interesting observations about the schools, teachers and teaching here. He was also of the opinion that on balance school was better in the UK.

We've had to pay the first two years in full because we're not yet eligible for HECS. We don't even get the prompt and full payment discount.

I agree. When we came here I was in favour of going private but my wife wanted to send them to state schools - for good sound financial reasons really. Expensive enough to move to another country...
