We had our coverage with a Washington State insurer, not sure if they are outside of WA, but I am sure most insurance companies offer something similar, try googling "Catastrophic Health Insurance"

Hi, when we first arrived we got insurance so there are some companies out there that aren't requiring a years residency.

We also just paid for "catastrophic" cover, we paid up front for doctors...
