I still smile when I remember the day I made by three year old explain what culo meant. He knew it was a bad word and had said it with a smile so I looked it up. He didn't know the English...

When my daughter was in scuola materna there was a boy who had been diagnosed was have learning disabilities. Not sure if that is the PC term. He was provided with a teacher who was there to help him...

Were we live the comunale school is completely free. My nearest school is statale and I chose it simply because it was the closest.

When my children are ill I always phone the school to tell them that they wont be in. I think its polite to do this but the teachers think I'm bonkers.

My OH went to a Catholic school in the UK which was roughly half Irish and half Italian. After his time there he couldn't stand the italians. He said they talked about you in front of you and ran...

Complete mixture of English, German, Swedish, Mandarin and whatever they speak in Tunisia (is it French?). Then there are those where the parents are speaking bad italian but I can't tell where they...

i overheard a conversation at materna yesterday. A nonna was quietly asking the teacher if there were any Italian children in the class! The teacher is lovely and loves my children - DS1 was with her...

Two of mine go back on the 7th (International school), the other two on the 13th (local asilo).

No holiday homework for us, unless you count getting DS2 to actually check were he is about to wee...

We are non believers but respect the right of other to believe in a God. We didn't opt our children out of religion at materna as I like them to be aware of the options, just wish they were taught...

When my daughter was in her last year at asilo there was a boy who was kept back and the other children didn't want to play with him. He was just "too big"

She is now at an international school...

She breaks up at the end of June - the same as the Scuola Maternas but later than other Italian schools. She goes back right at the start of September though.

We have also been warned about pinworms at out school. Easier to get rid of but but more icky
