Certified copies of everything go with your application. Use the DIAC checklist to be confident you are on track.

Yeah they let you know so you can leave. Although I think the ETA is for 3 months so you might have to pop in and out more than once anyway - I reckon it's worth it. Better to be in limbo here!...

Maybe because there is more paper involved they sink to the bottom of the tombola and are easier to grab. Or they are too heavy to stay on the dartboard, so DIAC are forced to do something else with...

Can't figure out why the sponsored visa, which surely requires more legwork, would be so far ahead of the straightforward one. Maybe there are far fewer 176 applications?

Doesn't make sense that the visa with LESS paperwork has the later processing time.

The way I read that email is, they're saying that they believe every application up to that date has been assigned a CO. Then there's a line in the email which says:

Time between getting a CO and visa grant seems to vary alot, depending on how complicated the case is I guess, and how motivated the CO. Are you all...

I think you are absolutely right. There are a 101 theories out there about what's going on at DIAC but at the end of the day all you can do is hang in there and wait - or fill in that complaint form...

The client DIAC Charters says 12 months - that's the official line, everything else is really a guess - most are done earlier than that, but that's is the official timeline for an offshore PR visa.
