I was using "bank" as a euphemism in savings/investment accounts, and yes, the difference (and more) is going into savings/investments. Stocks is a pretty broad term too!

The bank must have believed that the house was worth $850k at some point, and allowed them to borrow that much. What I wonder is if they ever had the income to justify borrowings of $850k.

Yes, if it plays out the way its looking Aus interest rates could well come down, which would also weaken the dollar.

Looks like the Chinese rate rise has not gone down well, their stock market...

Lots of people believe China will grow forever, but the same was thought of Japan until the 90's. Mish also has quite a bit to say about the Aus propert market, none of it good.
