Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

A moot was an Old English meeting for discussion.
Nowadays, only used I think in Law colleges and the phrase "a moot point"

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

The ECB is trying to emphasise that to members. Of course, IF they are still sovereign, whether they choose to implement Lex Monetae is a sovereign matter. But they cannot, I would think, set it to...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

I agree. In fact, I would think just about any rational person would agree.

The ECB made it very plain to Italy two weeks ago that Lex Monetaewould prevail....

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

And that is the polite bit!

Actually they did another paper a year or so ago saying the Euro was failing Europe, and was doomed. I will try to look it out.
The bit I really do not understand is...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

Another interesting paper from the IMF a couple of days ago. (Ms Lagarde very definitely does not reflect the mainstream of their thinking)

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

Ah, but with one jump he was free!

Point being that somebody has to finance Italy. Pensions can no longer do it. International markets look closed, or closing. And the ECB is "running down" its...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

On the assumption that garbatella is Rome reference, here is one Italian article. There are quite a few more
Euro, Bankitalia: "Uscita dell'Italia? Catastrofe". Mediobanca: "Se si rinomina il debito...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

Could we widen this a bit? It seems to be getting even narrower, and there are big moves afoot.
Perhaps we could retitle it.

Roads to a Grecian.....Turn Left (or Right) for Italy

AEP in the...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

Absolutely.

They have figuratively been the heads on the spikes to frighten the other members.
Had they been allowed to leave, they would be well on the road to recovery by now

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

Very true, but 1976 did provoke enormous anger throughout the world.
In order to avoid a repetition, the IMF adopted limits on the amount any nation could borrow. Broadly a multiple of their SDRs...

Re: Road to a Grecian turn?

There I am afraid I do disagree. IMO it was unconscionable for the IMF to participate in the Greek bailout in the first place. Period.
The IMF is broadly a vehicle for financial aid and...

The loans the advanced to Greece...
