Re: Price of gas update...

We ask that exact same question - around here, we can get gas for $4:30 or so (Costco and a few independents), but Chevron and Exxon are typically $5:29 or so - a full dollar more. So that's $10 to...

Re: Price of gas update...

Hmmm ... I drove past our local gas station 3 days in a row (incl. yesterday) and it was $5.99 for the cheapest option; but gas buddy is saying $5.79, and says updated 1 day ago. I'm beginning to...

Re: Price of gas update...

Many posters who make innocuous posts in 'random' threads are spammers trying to achieve the requisite post-count in order to be able to use other features of the board so they can start spamming. ...

Re: Price of gas update...

Presumably Shell Oil fits all the criteria for being a 'real oil company', but you dismissed them earlier. Around here, we also have "Union 76" which I think is another oil co? Around here, if you...

Re: Price of gas update...

So what is your research? What specifically are you looking for? Do you rely on independent researchers, or trust information from the vendors themselves? I don't doubt there are variations, but...

Re: Price of gas update...

So would you equate 'premium' with 'name brand'? Out here in CA, I don't see Exxon or BP, but we have Shell, Chevron, Union 76, etc on the 'name brand' side, with places like 'Rotten Robbie' and...

Re: Price of gas update...

Is that a typo or did you voluntarily pay ~$0.85 / gallon more than the minimum?

Re: Price of gas update...

Prices have gone UP slightly in my part of the Bay Area. Costco is back up to $4.99, and most other places are around $5.50 (for regular). $4.59 was the lowest a month ago.

Re: Price of gas update...

One week later, $4.59/gal ... so that's a 50 cent drop in a week. Things are changing fast!

Re: Price of gas update...

Wow, today we filled up for $5.19 / gal ('no-name' off-brand station); honestly can't remember when it was last this low! This is in the Bay Area. Costco is $5.19 also; unusual to find a place...

Re: Price of gas update...

I often take liberties and tell people something cost me $10 rather than the actual $9.99 (plus tax ... :) )

Re: Price of gas update...

Nice to see you go to the trouble of showing us the fractions of a cent (in a smaller font and all), but as you can see, the effort falls flat when 'quoting'. The difference between $3.849 and $3.85...

Re: Price of gas update...

It's gone up a good 50 cents / gal in the Bay Area this past week or so; you could shop around and find it for $5.50 if you were lucky, but now even Costco are $5.95 and everyone else is over $6,...

Re: Price of gas update...

We saw a gas station (Bay Area, CA) selling gas for $5:69 / gallon (credit card price) and we were shocked - cheapest we've seen in months. Many stations selling for over $6/gal.

As for insurance...

Re: Price of gas update...

I've just finished a 1-week rental of a Prius. I noted mileage at the start, and when I refilled the tank today; I got an ACTUAL result of 51 mpg, with a mix of city and freeway (400 miles approx). ...

Re: Price of gas update...

Last week I was traveling and rented a car for the week. The woman at the desk was trying to do me a favor and gave me a 'deal' on a brand new Camaro. I drove it for exactly 2 hours before returning...

Re: Price of gas update...

But that's part of the problem, isn't it - the fact they last forever means they keep running even when all the tolerances are shot, and that leads to pollution. There is nothing worse than being...

Re: Price of gas update...

Is diesel fundamentally cheaper? I thought a lot of the appeal of diesel in Europe was that it was taxed differently, due to it being a 'truck' (business) fuel? Diesels used to be noisier and more...

$3.00->$3.10 in Bay Area (east bay); $2.80 in Scottsdale, AZ - closest they've been in a long time.

Re: Price of gas update...

I don't have a Prius. I have a nice 3.2 liter V6.

what are you using that costs 70c / gal? is this the bio-fuel deal - used chip-pan oil, etc? :)

I agree - exchange rate is pretty weak as a comparison tool. Was just trying to bring some level of analysis to the situation! A quick search suggests PPP is 1 pound = 1.5 dollars, though, which is...

Re: Price of gas update...

Surely not if you factor in the purchase price of a car? My brother (who visits here every year) says the cars here cost the same in (numbers of) dollars as they do in pounds in UK - that is, a $20k...

Re: Price of gas update...

$3:05 in the East Bay; $2:50 in Phoenix. Trouble is, when I'm down in Phoenix I have a 10 minute commute but in the bay area, a 45 minute commute, so I don't get to take advantage of the great...

Wow - $2.25 at the same station last night. Yesterday morning it was at 2.15.

It's going up fast ... :(
