Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

And yes, back in the good old days of 1994... You do realise that...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

Yes I do and have first hand experience as it was part of my job to help these people. The UK pays people well for being unemployed or handicapped or whatever. No-one should have to go without...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

Well actually he never moved to Canada in the first place, you shouldn't make such accusations, have you nothing better to do with your time???? And considering I only left a year ago and he was...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

Social deprivation in the UK, Which year are we talking about here? The Unemployed and unemployable get the best deal in the UK. The minimun wage is more than it is here in Canada, and the only...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

Hmm, yes the UK is good for that. I see you haven't seen crime, drugs or the like, but a good riot or two is just great fun....I think I may have seen a few of those in my time here in Nova Scotia -...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I hope not, and I guess not everyone sees the world from my perspective, and that is probably because of the job I have. But I have worked in the ER both there and here and it is vastly different...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

There sure are dodgy areas in Nova Scotia, as working in the ER in Halifax will testify to, but Halifax is a city and I used to live in a small town (for the UK) and the ER there was horrific. ...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

Yes I know what it means, and no I was not attacking you personally, I was attacking the comments you made which if you care to read back seemed to be directed at me.
And as for the recent post......

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I can't say how bad it is in the UK as everyone has their opinions on what makes a place bad, but when I first moved away from Scotland it was almost 7 years before I went back, and in that time the...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I agree wholeheartedly. You probably have put very well, what I really wanted to say.
I really miss lots of things from the UK -
free healthcare
greenery all year round, (the scenery)
family &...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I think you'll find that at no point did I use foul language, did not say it was going to the dogs, and did not say it was 'overrun' with crime, but it sure is heading that way. And if you have gone...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I don't think you read what I wrote. I said I lived in numerous places throughout the UK. I certainly did not polarize anything, was there something specific? Or do you live (lived) in a place...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I also lived in a village in the UK, but there was still a population of 'underclass' that is no longer a minority. I have to ask how long ago you lived in this rural area? I moved here just over a...

Re: Advice for a Canadian moving to England?

I recently moved to Nova Scotia from Scotland, and though I miss my old home very much, I could never contemplate going back. I may be biased being a Scot, but I lived in Manchester, England for 5...
