E3 visa holders only need to apply for SSN.
E3D visa holders have to apply for EAD before applying for SSN.

I think we send that as well. We just followed the instructions on the website on what papers to send.

E3 visa and I-765 work authorization problems

My husband also had the same problem when he applied for his EAD last year.
First time, it was rejected as we did not fill the category and just specified 'Spouse of E3-non immigrant' as suggested...
