Re: Don't Trash the UK!

Whether we've made it and are still here, or gone back elsewhere, we all came to Canada because we wanted to. Nobody put us on the plane forcibly to come here, and no-one is making us stay if it...

Michel Roger Lafosse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Roger_Lafosse) aka Michael James Alexander Stewart of Albany, is a Belgian-born, naturalized British citizen (since sometime in the 1990's)...

The Queen was born in the UK. Yes, she has German ancestry but she's still British. You're a Scottish import in...

Re: D

Personally for me, comparing living in one part of the country to living in another part of it doesn't work, neither does comparing either of those to living in Canada. To me, moving is an adventure...

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

Jules is in Spain.

I do find most of what DBD says on BE to be very useful. The rest of his stuff hasn't been relevant to my situation yet, but I've only been here 2 yrs.

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

Even if I could afford to own and maintain two homes in separate countries, I still wouldn't do it.

If you're planning on doing this then why not just keep a house in Spain and holiday in Canada...

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

If you were old in Canada and had a holiday home somewhere else in a warmer climate, you'd just be doing what a fair number of Canadians who can afford it do, or would like to do. No surprise there....

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

I know nothing of architecture so couldn't tell you what is good or bad about it. The STC is a pretty good mall for shopping, but then it's local and convenient so we're more likely to go there.

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

Scarborough is the eastern-most suburb of Toronto. A good overview can be found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayor_of_Scarborough).

I like it here, others who've lived here haven't. It's...

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

I've never done -30 in Canada but I've done -15, and prefer that and Toronto's 5 months of winter per year a heck of a lot more than the 12 months of rain we had in the UK. Mosquitoes in summer I can...

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

When I came over, I knew my first job wouldn't be as good as the one's I was used to back in the UK, it's like getting your first job after leaving school. For pay (at least in Ontario), I'd consider...

Re: Don't Trash the UK!

Like nearly everything in life, where you live is a series of compromises unless money is...
