Sussex, Essex, London(work) but was born in NW England hence my being hung up on he better weather down South lol.

Best sunshine is English South Coast, especially Sussex. It also has much lower rainfall than South West (Devon, Cornwall).
I would guess if you are religious (I am not), you would be able to...

The South of England generally has better weather than the rest of the country though and that could be important to you. Google UK sunshine hours.

You could easily travel by train to get a feel...

As a rough rule of thumb, in UK 'detached' usually means 'good, safe' so long as it is not converted into flats.
I found it much harder to pick 'good areas' in NZ as virtually all property in NZ is...

I would avoid London as it would be hard to make friends there I think. It's also the one place where you might not feel safe (I used to work there) in the sort of areas you could likely afford.
