Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

My own personal view on immigration is that it is a negative double-edged sword. Often the immigrants are very young and would very much be needed in their home countries but when they move to richer...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

This election will go down in history as THE election of 2010. No election before this one and probably no election in the coming years will reach anywhere near the the very essence of election which...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

Sorry to say this but this is really becoming like a major embarrassment for Australia. Just get the bloody votes counted, it can't be that difficult, can it?

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

I understand that it is very important to get the result right, no matter how long it takes, but the length of time this has taken defies all credulity.

I think it is a tie anyway and neither...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

That's the cost of an election? That makes approximately $7/Australian over a period of three years. Perhaps in countries where they have no elections it is not because they are dictatorships but...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

The election was inconclusive, so the only fair thing to do is to have another one asap.

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

There has been talk about setting up a republic in Australia but the main-sticking point has been whether to have a ceremonial president or an executive president. Many people say that having a...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

I'm surprised to find out that they are taking their time counting. As far as I have thought, Australia has a political system where as soon as the election-result is confirmed, the winner of the...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

Jeez, if that is really the outcome of the first preferences but Labor will still form the government, all I can say it is a crap system. And when we think about it how some people would like to...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

I think the fair deal is to let Abbott try to form a government. If that fails then have another election. After all ANP got one more seat than ALP.

It is exactly cases like this one why I oppose...

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

You overestimate people's ability to remember. Or perhaps the Aussies have a longer memory.

Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

Ok, there was a really long thread on it, sorry, I hadn't looked long enough, wasn't on the front page.

But still, what is your view on the system of the government forcing you to turn up at the...

I haven't noticed a thread on this subject, so I'll start my own. However, if there is an earlier thread, let this one fade away.

You will have a general election next Saturday. How does it look...
