Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

There is no red tape that prevents anything. It's a simple case that UK - Aus - UK is priced differently to Aus - UK - Aus. I can't buy UK - Aus - UK if I want to start my journey in Aus, obviously....

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

You can't. You can pay the Aus fare in the UK of course but the A$ cost is simply converted to pounds. You could try fooling around with one ways but will probably end up worse off.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

You really are demented. Taxes are always included in advertised prices, it's the law.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

The subject has been done to death. The airlines set the fares according to the price the market is prepared to pay...supply & demand and all that. Perfectly normal business practice if you ask me.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Who the heck pays £2.5k for a seat up the back of the plane??? Granted I'm sure you could pay that, but you'd have to have someone else paying for the ticket or be a little bit 'special'! Terrible...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Yup, there it is!

Airlines often have a choice of engines you know - they could've gone for GE engines but RR agreed to build something to their requirements - this is perfectly normal in...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I suspect he got the true story, but just added his own little 'Qantas bee in bonnet' spin on it.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

What a crock, at least your version of the story anyway!

The engines are higher rated to allow the A380 to travel from LAX - MEL with a full load of pax & cargo - nothing to do with getting more...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

That's a fair point Paul. I have to pay my 'rego' this week and looking at it the TAC charge + insurance duty is $449.90. So all up I guess that makes it almost exactly $1000.

3rd year with...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I think my car insurance is reasonable - I pay $550, parking my Focus on the street in an area where shit happens. I struggle to believe that's double what I'd pay in a similar area in the UK with...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

You seem to have forgotten those prices were in different currencies.

Anyway, I never said the new model would be 5 times the price...you seem to be confusing yourself.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

If you think of the cost of a second car as being the difference between what you bought it for and then later sell it for, I reckon you'd find not a lot of difference over the same timespan,...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Correct.

It's also true that most airlines charge higher fares to their home markets.

In the UK a lot of people start their journeys with BA in another European country because the fare is...

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

Not really...the difference between iOS and Android was just over 20% for Europe...and close to 60% for Australia.

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

I think there is something exceptional about the iPhone market share in Australia though...my friends notice it when visiting that 'everyone' has an iPhone.

iOS Market Share in May 2011:

Re: Anyone Quitting Aus due to High Cost of Living

That's what a lot of people supposedly spend their various government handouts on. Not me, I spent mine on a beach hut in Ko Samui!
