Just to qualify Teepees comments, yes the NSW ambo service is in a bit of a mess and reminds me of my service (East Anglia) a few years back with the govt enquiry, etc. :( Things turned a corner...

I went over on a visitor visa - done it on online via ETA.
The step really is not that big! Can't remember exact measurements, but it certainly was not any bigger or any harder to do than any other...

Opted for NSW partly because of the ICP offer (which they have granted through recognition of prior learning) and partly through what i have heard of them as a service (supposedly the best in Aus?)...

As far as i know there only a handful ( a dozen maybe ) ex- UK paras working in the NSW, where as QLD has probably nearer 200. I gather a lot of these have joined QLD in the last year or so...
