It has to be said that the US customs get very nasty if they find an expired one in the passport...you end up with one heck of a lecture at the booth, then again inside. A lot of people just take it...

Worst that could happen, they tell you to reapply to Washington....but you didnt know you had to do that, Right?

As an Ex Passport Officer my advice would be to leave any visas which are still in date in the passport. You should note unexpired visa in the notes section on the form. The renewing Passport...

As others have said, a photocopy of other passport has been accepted, not that I dealt with any of those in the time I was there. For a renewal for PRs, without Canadian Passports, Just the expired...
