I'm working in Germany at the moment and my apartment (brand new in a new waterfront development like the London Docklands) has district heating and hot water and electricity included in the rent.

Have you ever considered moving to the UK? The weather is quite temperate and I've never needed to shovel a drive or hire a vehicular protection shelter. They speak mostly English and the food has...

I'm going to the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) tonight with work colleagues to have gluhwein, and venison & boar gulasch for dinner.

But is IS chaos.

People's lives are micro-managed these days, whether it's dropping the kids off, getting to work, making a connection... anything that throws that finely balanced system off...

If it's any consolation I lit our first fire last weekend (29 Oct) as it was rather chilly in the UK. The dogs were delighted.
