Hardly "the system I propose" - it was more of an idle ponder... :)

I remain to be completely convinced by your arguments, however. It would all depend on getting the balance right with the VAT...

If, using the UK as an example, income tax was scrapped completely, what would VAT have to be raised to in order to raise the same money? Assume that my VAT was levied on every single transaction,...

There may be a lot of natural resources IN Canada, but who owns them?

I'm impressed by you both being in the top 5% earners in the UK (what do you both do?) and yet be willing to throw it all...

The oil companies that have ready cash do exactly that. The ones that need to borrow to finance capital projects find it much harder to do so in a downturn.
