A guy I know got his PERM approved in 4 days. It all depends. the US immigration system is not as clear cut as Aus or Canada.

When they say remain/work permanently I wonder if they mean remain/ work in the US without having the E3 renewed? In other words go out of status and become illegal. This does happen to quite a few...

Thats right..but this has gotta be the stupidest rule. I am not sure what exactly they are trying to accomplish by having this ancient rule in place

Congrats! Thats strange that it took 10 months. I would think it probably had something to do with your I140. I was approved for 2 E3's through I129 and both took only 20 days. In any case keep us...

Wakkas - When you say you have H1B as a backup what do you really mean? Are you going to go ahead and file your I-140 and 485 AOS while on E3 and see how it goes or are you going to switch back to H1...
