Here in BC we've had lots of retirement or extended care homes lay off all the workers, then hire other people at half the pay. ...

Sorry, my mistake. And I do agree you don't have to hate the UK the emigrate. Many people try to justify their reasons for leaving the UK - and tell it the way they see it. Canada isn't Utopia...

I'm one of those rare folks that loves KD! My idea of heaven is when it's just me for dinner and I can eat the whole thing to myself. Everyone else hates it.

I believe it's because kids start school a year earlier in the UK than they do in Canada. It evens out further down the road. My experience, anyway. My kids started school in the UK, finished...
