Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

IIRC the pound isn't doing well on the markets in light of the uncertainty on EU escape - plus Oz rebounded somewhat on Abbott getting the boot and it looking like Turnbull could get reelected.

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

Reduced chance of interest rate rises in the UK, coupled with reduced chances of interest rate falls (maybe even rises) in Oz. Next move is probably driven by what happens in China.

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

Actually looks like there were two of them, 1.6% & 1.9%.

Looks like China is considered to be panicking over export drops..

Suggestion is the yuan was 13% adrift from a fair 'floating'...

Let's hope to hell we don't have to benefit from Abbott/Hockey's economic brilliance for a moment longer than legally required. We probably couldn't survive another term of that level of genius and...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

I'd suggest 10 year is more indicative.

China protected Australia's economy (with Labor's help) whilst the rest of the world went to sh*t. We're now reverting to the longer term trend under the...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

If you want another metaphor - GFC I was a left hook to the plucky challenger "World Economy". He'd been hit a few times before, but he was younger then, more vital, less corrupted by...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

If "GFC II - Electric Boogaloo" came to pass then all bets are off. There's not sufficient government-type action headroom left to bail out things again - so we are into domino theory territory and...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

I'm not saying the exchange rate didn't vary (quite a bit), that's what they do.

However when their were sane interest rates in all countries, they gyrated around that 2.4:1 type of level.

From...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

The 2.4 level was accepted as giving the best balance of "more expensives" and "more cheap" between the two countries. Neutral in other words.

You might notice your dates are all post GFC and thus...

Re: Exchange rate AUD Vs GBP £1 buys $1.83

Oh, and the markets seem to think that a Labour government would mean an earlier interest rate rise; therefore a rise in the pound and relative fall in the AUD. So there's that too.

I wonder what the UK election result will do to it tomorrow?
