US system is based on contribution years - 35 years. You need 40 quarters to be eligible for SS.

When you apply for SS they ask where were you were born? That's a red flag right there. If you didn't start work in the US until you were 40, and you said you were born in the UK, then some...

I think that's the correct way to go about it. Take your UK pension, when you are eligible. Then wait until you are 66 to take 50% of spouse's SS.

You would get 50% of his SS when you are age 66. I think if you are 62 it would be 35%, and graduated up at different years. I don't know all the details - you would have to call SS. but I know you...

If you have been married to your husband for over 10 years, then you can claim 50% of his SS, instead of your own. (If half of his is more than the total of yours).

Generally speaking, it's a well established fact that a uni education will provide you with a much higher income, that's been proven.
