I feel your pain. My current route from CNS to Lisbon in May is Cairns - Hong Kong - Amsterdam - Madrid - Lisbon!

Which airline is this with? If not AA, you can't book online, you will need to call. Call the Australian number though, they are friendlier, quicker and more efficient that the US one.

The way I read it is that they are clarifying that IF you gift miles, the recipient not the donor is the one who gets the bonus miles. I don't think that sentence is relevant to purchased miles'...

I personally would book now to secure the outbound flights. You need to ring 02 9101 1948. It's easiest just to give them dates and flight numbers; I've found the AA agents to be very good.

Have a look at AA's route map - they fly from Edinburgh to New York and Manchester to quite a few places. Or you could use them on BA, though they charge ridiculous surcharges.

I'm really not sure that they are worth the effort given the additional scamcharges - and you have to fly BA :(. Big devaluation to the BA programme today - 50% increase in Avios required to Sydney...
