I think it says somewhere on here that the participants were offered either a week all paid for or flights for a fortnight with one week paid for and they could support themselves for the other week?...

It does make sense to say that they rented a house in Queensland, near Brisbane. Just like you could say someone has a house in Devon, near Cullumpton. Or in NSW, near to Sydney.
