Hmmm...I've just returned to the UK and just sitting on my arse thinking what next to do, I get more in basic benefits (don't qualify for unemployment/ jobseekers so I mean child benefit, child tax...

I think it will all come down to wages, unfortunately. If you can live with a lot less money (vs UK) as a trade-off for better quality of life in non-money-driven respects, NZ can still be OK.
