It may not always be as much as this if you use a UK taxi and travel off peak :)

It is a good way to go and saves a second flight for any poor dog!

Just brought my dog back from India and strapped the lead and collar on the outside of the crate on the top attached it in a zip lock bag with thick tape. My issue was the water container, it leaked...
