If the heat is getting to you... cook outside on a fancy BBQ... just like many of the locals do. some BBQs even come with a place for a wok if you enjoy a stir-fry..

In NSW it isn't hard to find large 24 hour supermarkets.. even in the ACT they are open late and some have booze for sale in the aisles.

I was vegetarian for 7 years in Oz... never had a problem...
