Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

If truth be told, beyond visiting, I haven't lived there so I don't really know beyond anecdotal evidence what things can cost. The stuff I have personally imported seems 'cheap'. Visitors to us say...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

It's ok, I could see that. I wanted to start out by saying this emphasises the fact you have to be careful that the UK must surely be 'cheaper'.
The poll....Chris's point.

I only made the point...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

No, or are you being funny he he... I can't be sure, overall. I think both countries are expensive compared to say the US.

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Fine. I don't care what people say about their own situation- let's keep the debate going.

I respect Chris's opinion, but I feel I can critique it if I think it's warranted, in the name of debate.

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I am coming across as someone who is holding someone to account for the things they say. I attacked your argument in the first instance.

I don't do it to get a rise - I do it because I don't like...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Ok...but I did initially attack the rigour of the poster's argument....
'it is cheaper'...based on an internet poll with what, 100 responses...many of which might be questionable - both sides.

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I was being realistic and probably insulting but not arrogant.
The more you play the Little Englander, indeed come over as one, the more I'll see you as one...and reply as an Englishman would...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

My answer: it's a poll on a forum! I would like to see, and have said, who has bothered to reply to such an open-ended poll. I won't argue with what the poll actually has concluded.

I think I...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I trust the data I find - generally, but then I apply age-old 'What ifs' and factors to it. Google gives me the questions, not necessarily the answers.

I sometimes wonder if the people who...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

It never ceases to amaze me how little people know about Maths (amongst other things). There have been a minority of people on this forum in ten years who have worked out that you need to work out...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I'm pretty sure I noticed that too - (initial observation:
I was so surprised I thought I must be mistaken - and pushed the thought to the back of my mind and chastised myself).

But as I was not...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

You're such an intellectual lighweight Chris! Can you account why it is 'just cheaper' or is that beyond you? An aside: surely the FX rate came into play when you transferred capital to the UK and...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Specifically I agree with you. That Adelaide is Adelaide and is self-contained. That York and Salisbury are cities. For me is it just of interest that economically you can roll up regions (like...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Notwithstanding that you can aggregate small UK cities (Welsh's point) - I like living in one of the 'federalised' cities in the Australian model - it suits me fine that I can commute from an edge of...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

Won't argue with the data or the point - this is the point I would make nonetheless:

That the distances and density of population in the UK means that you can roll up entire cities (some of which...

rather than demand one case based on personal observation.

I can see that it would be cheaper for you, Chris but not for...
