Yeah, it seems reasonable to me. However, I'm not a lawyer and that is only my simple layman's point of view. AC is the one on here for legal stuff.

If the wording was ambiguous enough such that it can be interpreted to mean that a permit was just requested rather than signed off then the lawyer definitely screwed up.

I agree.


I think withholding cash until the permit is signed off should be a perfectly ok thing to do. The OP didn't do anything wrong apart...

Nobody would do that would they? If you get a permit to do some work surely it's implicit that the permit is signed off, otherwise what was the point? If you don't get final sign off it just goes...

From the info provided I'd say the home inspector here did his/her job. The OP knew the deck was dodgy when they bought it - it's why they held some cash back until it was sorted out.

That only helps if they actually pulled the permits in the first place. If they never requested them then city won't know about the work they did and there won't be any outstanding permits. I think...
