I've met a few that do talk like that - mainly older people. Mostly what I hear in Vancouver is that vacant sounding west coast accent like you would expect from paris hilton.

We only have it for local news and the movie channels. Everything else is from the BBC using iPlayer.

Bad TV isn't really the problem it once was. You can get iPlayer via a VPN at a fairly low cost (we pay $25/qtr) or you if you don't mind a bit of extra faffing about you can torrent stuff for free.

Canadian houses don't age well. I've looked at a fair few recently, and any built prior to 1985 seem to be falling to bits.

Lots of arguments about thermal properties etc of building materials. ...
