Have you seen this (http://www.business.vic.gov.au/busvicwr/_assets/main/lib60023/beer%20lovers'%20guide%20low.pdf)? It's a PDF but you can usually pick it up from one of the breweries.

A nice beer that I found recently was the Dubbel from Bright Brewery. I had it at the brewery a couple of months back and it was only available on tap but they said it would be available generally...

My guess would be The Royston Hotel (http://www.roystonhotel.com.au). A mate and I accidentally ended up in there on a trip to the Mountain Goat Brewery about 2 years back. It's a great place. And...

Personally I like a bit of James Squires - it reminds me of a Speckled Hen. If you fancy something hoppier then I would say: Hellfire Ale - Bright Brewery or the ale from Grand Ridge (can't remember...
